Burnaby Mountain may be home to a new gondola and yet another way to enjoy the Vancouver skyline. But council is not ready to decide about the city’s involvement in the project until they have the chance to meet next week. TransLink has already selected CH2M Hill to take care of the business case study. Some councillors have requested extra time to go over all the documentation associated with the project.
The current proposal has the gondola running from the Sky Train Station on Production Way down to Simon Fraser University. Other stops being considered are at Lake City Way and the still to be constructed Burquitlam Station. But there are concerns about the gondola’s impact on the area.
TransLink has already been contacted by representatives of the Stoney Creek Environment Committee, the SFU Student Society, the Forest Grove strata council and the Burnaby Mountain Bike Association. Alan James, representing Stoney Creek voiced concerns over disturbing the mountain’s salmon stocks. All of these agencies, along with the Ministry of Transportation are expected to work with TransLink to come up with an acceptable concept plan, should the Burnaby council give the go ahead.
