A local family was able to return home for Christmas and enjoyed the holiday after a mud slide looked like it was going to force them out of their home for the entire holiday. A break in the water main washed away a good chunk of the embankment that was followed by a mudslide all the way down to the Port Moody area. Fortunately it was deemed safe for the family to return home on Christmas eve.
According to a couple of different engineers the house was incredibly solidly built and that was the reason it survived the mudslide and is still deemed safe for occupancy. The family was in awe of the community support they received from family and friends in the local area and were very appreciative.
The family is still sorting out who is going to pay for the repair needed for the property. The insurance provider is attempting to work out a solution with the city government, and the family is unclear what stage that is at. Although it is clear that everything has been made so occupying the home is now safe and fixing the damage can be undertaken.
