New Westminster appears to be coming into its own. Long considered the poor step sister of Vancouver, the area is getting a second look because of its real estate prices. That and the fact that the area has been slowly but steadily getting a much needed face lift.

The West End and Sapperton are doing their best to increase their curb appeal, much as Queen’s Park has done. The area is showcasing its wide streets, eclectic architecture and water side location. The poor step sister just might become a full on adoptee.

If such is the case, then bargains such as that found in Queensborough last week might become rarities. A rather smallish home sporting a river view and not even ten years old was found available for less than $500,000. The same money would only get you something badly in need of repair in Burnaby. In Vancouver, you’d be lucky to get your foot in the door in only the most questionable of neighbourhoods.

Enjoy the honeymoon with New Westminster while you can folks. Reality is closing in and in this up and coming neighbourhood, the only way for prices to go is up.
