The Vancouver metro area’s job market is looking up. Predictions are for a nine percent net employment outlook for the third quarter of 2010. A survey done by Manpower Canada noted that 16 percent of employers will be hiring during that period, seven percent of those surveyed plan on cutting back and the majority, 76 percent will keep their current staff numbers.
This nine percent is an improvement over the zero growth predicted for the second quarter of 2010 as well as higher than the two percent predicted for the third quarter of 2009. The Burnaby-Coquitlam area seems to have the best new job picture, with 22 percent net employment outlook. Surrey, on the other end of the scale is expecting a two percent net employment rate.
Nationwide, the employment outlook for the third quarter is similarly optimistic. The prediction is for a ten percent net employment increase, as opposed to the seven percent predicted for the second quarter of 2010. Compared to the third quarter of 2009, this is an 11 percent increase. This increase is valid for seven out of ten surveyed industry sectors.
