The city of Coquitlam is considering options for puppy park areas. Citing the need to stick to a maximum budget of $80,000, council is asking residents to weigh in on three options.
One is to put a fenced section in Glen Park, complete with a trail network. This section would be 12,000 square metres and would be the $80,000 option. The second option, coming in at about $47,000 would be a fenced area in Town Centre Park that would be 3,875 square feet. The least expensive option is to establish a trail that would run along the western edge of the Coquitlam River. Cost for this idea would be about $5,000 for the signage.
Selina Robinson, city council member, stressed the importance of sticking to the budget. While the dog parks are a positive step for the community, residents should not expect the city to build or maintain more that it can reasonably afford.
Residents can voice their opinion on the city web site or in an upcoming open house. Data accumulated will be presented to council when seeking approval to design the preferred park plan. As of yet there is no completion date for the project.
